Striped Bass-These fish are aggressive and
fun to catch, very abundant in the waters off the
Massachusetts coast. With a legal minimum size of 28" we
have taken in specimens up to 45 lbs. aboard the Obsessed.
Limit two "keeper" fish per day per angler.
Their season runs from mid-may through October. Methods used
are: trolling, livelining or chunk Mackerel, Herring, and
eels.
Also caught with seaworms, plugs, spinners, and other lures. Our State record
fish is 73 lbs.We usually use live bait,(mackerel) in june
on into July (depending on the arrival of bluefish), Then
head out to deeper water to chunk for larger bass.August
finds us trolling or casting for a combo of bass and
maruding bluefish( there is nothing more exciting than
watching a Blue smash your surface plug.
Bluefish- With sharp teeth and a fight to
the finish, blues are a favorite species from mid-summer
through October. The only limitations are a 10-fish/day
possession. A steel leader and medium tackle are recommended
for bigger fish.
Methods include: trolling, chumming, casting lures. blues
hit on just about anything. Our State record fish is
27lbs./4oz. Blues usually come in late in the summer and
travel in schools. Their teeth are so sharp that anglers
often use gloves when handling them to remove the hook.
